About Us
Ranching is not something that is new to Dale, Patti, Kelley,
and Lindsey Sommerlatte. Twelve years ago the Sommerlatte
family began raising registered Shorthorn cattle on their land
that has been involved in ranching since 1861. Only by accident
did the Sommerlattes move from operating a commercial herd to
a registered Shorthorn herd.
Starting out with one heifer that was intended for their daughter,
Kelley, to show at the Texas major shows led to 50 registered
Shorthorns including Maine Anjous and AOBs. After the first
T.C.C.A. heifer show proved to be successful, both inside and
outside the show ring, the herd rapidly began to grow. As show
heifers were purchased, both the exceptability inside the show
ring and successful blood lines became the foundation of the
herd. Today, along with the Shorthorns, 4 Bar S operates a small
herd of Maine Anjou and cross cattle evolving from Lindsey's
show career. At the Texas State Show held June 3, 2006, 4 Bar S
Shorthorns was named the 2006 Progressive Breeder of the
Year.
Recently, K-Kim Pasadena joined ToJo Sunny Boy and HVR
Riders 169. Currently our A.I. program includes using Rodeo
Drive, Gizmo, Double Vision, Last Chance, Double Trouble,
Leader 18th, Equity, Vortec, Castlerock, HVR Riders 925 116 and
Leggs. We are constantly improving our blood lines through
flushing and acquiring embryos.
The Sommerlattes have been very active in 4-H and FFA
programs promoting youth. Visitors are always welcome. We
enjoy your interest in our program.
